GENERAL PURPOSE
Describe the basic function of the job; the reason the job
exists.
The Engineering Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of
the engineering team which includes design, development,
qualification, planning, programming, manufacturing engineering and
transition of new product to manufacturing.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This position may participate in one or more of the following
duties as directed by supervision or management.
Establishes team objectives; sets department goals, schedules, and
priorities.
Utilize and encourage growth of existing staff skilled in tooling,
machining, design, manufacturing engineering, methods and
processes, and cost estimating.
Improve existing, and develop new production processes, methods,
automation and equipment for the purpose of increasing output or
efficiency and reducing costs. Drives innovation.
Assist manufacturing operations in solving technical issues
involving tooling, quality, and process problems affecting the
daily operations of manufacturing processes.
Establishes and meets schedules for the introduction of new
methods, new products or cost reductions. Oversee R&D and
prototype projects.
Determine root cause of failures using statistical methods and
recommend changes in designs, tolerances, or processing methods, in
cooperation with quality team resources.
Apply continuous improvement methods such as lean manufacturing and
Six Sigma to enhance manufacturing quality, reliability, and cost
effectiveness.
Collaborates with other departments to include Business
Development, Quality, Sales, and Manufacturing.
Responsible for managing planners and the planning process;
estimators and the estimating process.
Evaluate manufactured products according to internal and customer
specifications and quality standards.
Assist in design layout of equipment or workspaces to achieve
maximum efficiency.
Other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Responsible to conduct yourself and ensure your subordinates (if
applicable) conduct themselves in a manner consistent with company
mission, values, code of ethics, policies, and other standards of
conduct.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering or
related field.
5-7 years' experience in manufacturing engineering; previous work
in a medical device and / or aerospace environment desired.
Contract manufacturing environment preferred. Minimum of 3 years
previous supervisory experience; preferably in a manufacturing
environment.
Experience working in a lean manufacturing environment, Six Sigma
certification (Green or Black belt) ISO9000, AS9100; Experience
with process flow layout and/or design.
Preference will be given to individuals with experience in Machine
Tool, vacuum brazing,
Strong leadership skills including mentoring, motivating,
developing engineering teams.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
Proficient in product development process and development of
manufacturing processes in a contract manufacturing
environment.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Products
Capable of learning M1 Manufacturing Planning system.
Excellent communication skills.
Excellent ability to multi-task, prioritize and adapt to shifting
priorities.
Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills and the
ability to think independently.
Organized, with an aptitude for manufacturing processes.
Able to work with and manage people in a professional manner.
