Job Description Job Description 40 hours per week - MUST be able to lift up to 50 pounds - Must have a valid MN License and able to drive SUMMARY The Food Shelf Worker is responsible for day-to-day operations of Food Shelf, including stocking to ensure adequate food supply, sorting produce, moving product, assisting clients, handling donations internally and externally, light cleaning, and assisting with various food shelf projects. The position has knowledge of all areas of the food shelf and can act as a substitute when needed. This is a manual labor position. Heavy lifting is a job requirement. Candidate will need to be able to lift up to 50 pounds, know how to operate and handle a forklift to move bigger and heavy pallets. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: Unload donation deliveries and food bank deliveries, tracking weights as appropriate. Sort produce for the shopping floor and cooler. Sort and stock deliveries, including stocking shopping area. Assisting clients through the food shelf to select food items. Light daily cleaning, including sweeping, mopping, and emptying garbage/recycling bins. Back up driver to pick up retail rescue food from local grocery stores and donation drives. Assist with mobile food shelf, including packing, delivering and preparation. Assist with food deliveries, including multiple food distributions in our service area. Provide guidance and support for community service workers and county work program employees. Assist Food Shelf Manager with daily tasks and shifting work focus when needed. Works collaboratively with other staff, clients, partners, and volunteers. Responsible for assisting with community projects, as needed. Other duties as assigned. Knowledge of: Applicable policies, procedures and regulations covering specific areas of assignment. Principles and practices of conflict resolution, customer service and outreach. Local community resources and regional community services programs. Skill in: Working effectively with persons of diverse racial and socioeconomic backgrounds. Assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands. Maintaining composure and working effectively under stressful conditions. Collaborating as a team member, with colleagues, staff, and community representatives. Effective verbal and written communication. LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS A valid Minnesota State Driver’s License, proof of insurance and review of Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) report is required. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT Work is performed in a warehouse environment which requires regular heavy lifting of food boxes and items. This position requires lifting 50 pounds on a daily basis. Must have access to reliable transportation. Ability to drive a motor vehicle required. A job in this category requires walking and standing to a significant degree.
